3/3/2023 0 Comments Soccer boss amstradI also had green screen Amstrad monitors because we couldn’t afford the full colour monitors. Would set the border and screen to white, the text colour to black, and then print Hello world! in the middle of the screen. * - Although you could link several things together on one line.īORDER 7: PAPER 7: INK 0: CLS: PRINT AT 10, 10 "Hello world!" Games like that really helped aspiring coders because they could BREAK into them (assuming they hadn't done a POKE 23659,0 which caused a reset if you tried to force the program to stop), and then see all the code and work out what it did. The entire game would have had to come in at under 10,000 lines of code*, and I remember it drawing various things really slooooowly to show things like goals. Was that the one that was coded in ZX BASIC? If it was, I think the reason it duplicated the whole game was because it was difficult to save the arrays and variables that would have contained the various data it needed, so just backing up the entire game was the easier. PS Back then I thought Toms was an old man, but he was actually only in his twenties. On the Spectrum version (and possibly other versions) when you saved a game the entire game had to be saved onto cassette, which took a long time, but created a duplicate copy of the full game. The original Football Manager was a cracking game. I seem to remember one of the football manager games being a pain in the neck to load until I got that cassette player. I also had a cassette deck with a knob on and light indicator to adjust the tape heads, which helped with tricky to load games. I bought a third party floppy disc drive for my C64 just so I could play Salamander without the long loading times between levels. I remember the C64 having a separate cassette desk, rather than an integrated one like on the ZX Spectrum. I had an C64, so did a few mates, games were mostly on cassette tape on the C64, so you hoped the tape wasn't damaged so the game would load properly, plus i could take ages to load up games, i remember one game that took 45 minutes to load up, a lot of gamers will get frustrated if a game takes longer than 45 seconds to load up nowadays.
